Chili Con Carne

1 lb ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup ground pepper
1 lb can tomatoes
1 lb can dark kidney red beans
2 8oz cans tomato sauce
1 tsp salt
1-2 tsp chili powder
1 bay leaf

Cook 1 lb lean ground beef, 1 cup chopped onion, and 3/4 cup chopped green pepper until meat is lightly browned and vegetables are tender. Spoon off fat. Stir in one 1 lb can tomatoes, broken up, one 1 lb can dark red kidney beans, drained, two 8 oz cans tomato sauce, 1 tsp salt, 1 to 2 teaspoons chili powder, and 1 bay leaf. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Remove bay leaf.

Makes 4 servings.
